The Prince George Spruce Kings have added a captain to their ranks.

The Kings picked up 20-year-old defenceman Derek Henderson from the Surrey Eagles in exchange for future considerations.

Henderson, who wore the 'C' last season for the Surrey Eagles, was due to arrive in Prince George Wednesday afternoon and is expected to be in the lineup Saturday night for the BCHL season-opener when the Kings host the Quesnel Millionaires.

"He's a solid defensive defenceman who will help 5-on-5 and on the penalty-kill and being a former captain I'm sure he will bring leadership to our team," said Kings head coach and general manager Ed Dempsey.

"Obviously, we only have one 20-year-old back on defence -- (Justin) Fillion -- and we can use a little more experience back there, especially with (Trevor) Esau injured."
