The Prince George Spruce Kings used the first pick in the BCHL's inaugural Affiliate Player Draft Monday to choose Cariboo Cougars defencemen Kenny Nordstrom.

The six-foot 155 pound blueliner from Terrace was one of two major midget league Cats to be taken in the new draft, which targets 15 year olds. Joining Nordstrom is Cariboo Cougars forward Tyler Povelofskie, who was picked first in the second round (sixteenth overall, after Powell River passed in the first round).

"Both players have the potential to be very strong players in our league,"said Mike Hawes, the Spruce Kings general manager. "Kenny is a big, strong, mobile, puck moving d-man. Tyler is a smooth skating skilled forward with a great skill set. Both play in a great program right now with the Cariboo Cougars which will help them prepare for the next level."

The Spruce Kings said both players will appear on the reserve roster.
