Less than 24 hours after his 21-game scoring streak was halted Paul De Jersey had a pair of goals to lead the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 5-1 win over the Vernon Vipers in front of 1,602 spectators Sunday at the Wesbild Centre.
It was the 20th win of the British Columbia Hockey League season for the Kings (20-15-2-3) and salvaged a three-game road trip which saw them fall 4-3 in Chilliwack before being blanked 4-0 in Penticton as the Vees (35-3-0-2) earned their 22nd consecutive win.
De Jersey leads the BCHL in scoring with 70 points including 33 goals with seven members of the Vees chasing him.
Sean Landrey also had two goals for the Kings, while newcomer Zack Rassell, acquired at the Jan. 10th trade deadline from the AJHL's Canmore Eagles for future considerations, picked up an assist. Gerry Fitzgerald had the other goal for Prince George.
Patrick McGillis beat Kings' goalie Ty Swabb with a power-play goal late in the second period.
With the win the Kings remain a point ahead of the fourth-place Chilliwack Chiefs (20-15-0-2), but have played three more games than the former Quesnel Millionaires. The two teams face off in a crucial doubleheader at The Coliseum on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.
The Chiefs' shutout the basement-dwelling Trail Smoke Eaters 2-0 on Sunday, while the Interior Conference's second-place Merritt Centennials blanked the Langley Rivermen 3-0.
