Thousands of children in Prince George will have the opportunity to fine-tune their soccer skills during Summer Soccer Development Camps held in July and August for seven- to 12-year-old children at the Rotary Fields on Ospika Boulevard.

New technical director, Joel MacDonald, has revamped the programs a bit, said Linda Herman, executive director at the PGSYA.

"The younger children will work on skills but definitely the focus is on having fun and introducing them to the game of soccer, whereas for the older children it will be a little bit more about skill development," Herman said.

There are four sessions available and the children are divided into two age categories, seven to nine and 10 to 12 years.

The Prince George Youth Soccer Association (PGSYA) representatives know that people go away during the summer so there are a couple of options throughout the summer for children to develop their skills while having fun and getting some exercise.

Session one: seven to nine years - July 11 to 15.

Session two: 10 to 12 years - July 18 to 22.

Session three: seven to nine years - Aug. 15 to 19.

Session four: 10 to 12 years - Aug. 22 to 26.

"There will be a little competition -- we call it the World Cup -- and that's on the Thursday of each camp," said Herman.

Fridays are pizza lunch day.

The camps are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

MacDonald will be running three of the four camps and Sonny Pawar, who is the men's coach at UNBC, will run the other, Herman said.

Each registrant will receive a T-shirt and the cost for the camp is $150 per child, if a sibling also registers it's $135 for that child.
