The College Heights Cougars got what they deserved.

Ranked fifth going into Day 1 of the boys double-A provincial volleyball championship in Kelowna, the Cougars went 1-2 in their round-robin pool play matches and dropped to the No. 7 seed for the start of today's tournament round.

"We were in the mid-pool five-to-eight group and the way we performed, they have us where we should be," said Cougars head coach Jay Guillet.

College Heights opened with a straight-set loss to Sa-Hali of Kamloops, losing 25-23, 25-21, then rallied to beat the D.P. Todd Trojans of Prince George 20-25, 25-22, 15-13, and ended the day with a 25-20, 25-14 loss to Langley Christian.

"I was pleased with the comeback win over D.P. Todd," said Guillet. "We had opportunities against Sa-Hali but got off to a slow start and then we were chasing them. At provincials, you can't be chasing teams.

"Now we're in a playoffs and if you win you move on and if you lose you're into the consolation round."

The Cougars placed third in the B pool behind 3-0 Sa-Hali. College Heights will be back on the court at UBC-Okanagan today at 9 a.m. against the second-place C Pool team.

The No. 9-ranked Trojans dropped to 0-3 to finish fourth in Pool B, losing two-set matches to Langley Christian (17- 25, 19-25) and Sa-Hali (18-25, 22-25). D.P. Todd plays the top team in the C Pool today at 10:45 a.m.

Meanwhile at the triple-A boys championship, also being played in Kelowna, the Kelly Road Roadrunners finished second in the K Pool Wednesday with a 2-1 record. The Roadrunners started with a three-set win over Reynolds of Victoria (23-25, 25-18, 15-13), lost 25-18, 25-18 to Kwantlen Park of Surrey, then rebounded with a 17-25, 251-9, 15-10 match win over Mount Baker of Cranbrook.

Kelly Road finished second in its pool behind 3-0 Kwantlen Park. The Roadrunners play Claremont of Victoria (1-2), the third-place finishers in the H Pool today at 10:45 a.m.
