Kamloops hoops teams defeat Condors, Roadrunners

The 2016 high school basketball season ended on a losing note for two Prince George teams. The Duchess Park Condors lost a heartbreaker Saturday in the battle for ninth place at the triple-A boys provincial tournament in Langley.

The 2016 high school basketball season ended on a losing note for two Prince George teams.

The Duchess Park Condors lost a heartbreaker Saturday in the battle for ninth place at the triple-A boys provincial tournament in Langley. They fell 65-63 to the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops.

Ryan Miller had 22 points and Brayden MacLean picked up 15 to lead all Viking shooters.

The Condors (2-2) were led offensively by senior guard Jasper Yutuk, who finished his high school career with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jong Won Yun had 11 points for the Condors, who trailed 31-29 at the half.

The Southridge Storm of Surrey defeated the Steveston-London Sharks 78-71 in the triple-A championship game.

Lord Bing Gray Ghosts of Vancouver won the bronze-medal game 58-44 over the Mark Isfeld Ice of North Vancouver.

Meanwhile, at the double-A boys provincial championship, also in Langley, the Kelly Road Roadrunners of Prince George also lost a close one for 13th place, 50-46 to the Westside Whundas of Kamloops.

Reed Benz collected 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Whundas. For the Roadrunners (1-3) Solomon Dugdale picked up 15 points, Ethen Coleman had nine points and Matt Price scooped up nine rebounds and had five points.

The gold medal went to the Collingwood Cavaliers of West Vancouver, 68-40 winners over the St. Michaels University Blue Jags of Vancouver.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints of North Vancouver took the bronze-medal match 68-40 over Abbotsford Christian Knights.
