Jesse Jenks swept aside 31 of 33 shots to help lead the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 5-2 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs Friday night at the Coliseum.
It was Jenks 10th win of the season between the pipes for the Kings, his second victory of the season against Chilliwack in the B.C. Hockey League.
Prince George pulled within a point of the Mainland Division-leading Chiefs and are now 17-11-0-2 with 36 points.
Chilliwack remains atop the division at 18-9-0-1 with 37 points.
Friday night, Kings forward Brogan O'Brien notched a pair of goals, his fourth and fifth tallies of the season, while forward Rider Stoglin scored his first of the season.
Prince George skated out to a 3-0 lead early in the third period.
Braiden Epp lifted a backhand shot past Chiefs starting netminder Aidan Pelino early in the first period to give the Kings a 1-0 lead.
O'Brien skated down the right wing and snapped a shot past Pelino for his second goal of the game and a 3-0 lead. In the second, O'Brien extended the Kings' lead to 2-0 with a power play goal at the 3:17-minute mark of the second period.
Trailing 3-0, Chilliwack got on the board eight minutes into the third period when Dennis Cholowski ripped a wrist shot from the point that beat Jenks.
Jeremiah Luedtke tallied the Kings fourth goal when he skated through the neutral zone while killing off a penalty and snapped a shot past Pelino.
Pelino was pulled for a two-minute span with four-and-a-half minutes left in the game for a Chiefs extra attacker.
Shortly after, Mason Boh scored his first goal of the season for the Chiefs to make things interesting, but Stoglin struck 13 seconds later to secure the Kings win.
The Chiefs outshot Prince George 33-27.
The two teams clash again tonight at the Coliseum at 7 p.m.
