Dave Jenkins Jr. traded his law books for a lacrosse stick and proved he still knows how to handle one.
On Sunday afternoon at Kin 1, Jenkins played his first game of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association season for the College Heights Pub Assault and was a major contributor in a 14-5 win against the Mackenzie Lumberjacks. Jenkins, a University of Alberta law student, finished the contest with three goals and four assists.
His teammate, Clarke Anderson, also had a big game. Anderson burned the Lumberjacks for five goals and three helpers. John Makowsky added one goal and seven assists for the Assault.
Mackenzie was led by Ken Barwise and Mike Marc-Foreman. Both players scored once and had two assists.
In Saturday night PGSLA action, the Shooters Pub Devils downed the Riverstone Pub/Regional Security Stylers 9-5 and the BX Pub Bandits defeated the Lumberjacks 15-6.
In the Devils-Stylers game, Phil Michel paced the winners with four goals and two assists. Sobhnik Manhas, meanwhile, added two goals and three assists for the Devils. The Stylers were led by Mike Padalec, who had two goals and one helper. Morgan Bloom, with three assists, was also a big part of the Stylers' attack.
In BX Pub's win against Mackenzie, Mike Engbrecht of the Bandits controlled the floor. He filled up the scoresheet with three goals and eight assists. Mitch Marsolais (four goals, three assists), Jared Rossi (three goals, one assist) and Drew Doig (two goals, four assists) also came up big for the Bandits. Chad Gratton, with five goals and one helper, was the best of the Lumberjacks.
The Devils, with a 5-1 record, are at the top of the standings in the five-team league. The Bandits and Assault are tied at 4-1, while the Lumberjacks (1-5) and Stylers (0-6) are struggling to pick up points.
The next game is Tuesday, when the Devils and Bandits clash at 8 p.m. at Kin 1.
