Prince George native Jared Young, pictured playing for the Doosan Bears in South Korea last year, has been called up to the majors by the New York Mets.

Prince George's Jared Young was expected to suit up for the New York Mets for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Young, who signed with the Mets earlier this year, has been playing for the AAA Syracuse Mets after part of a season in South Korea. Before that, he played for the Chicago Cubs. The 28-year-old was batting .259 with five home runs in 22 games for Syracuse.

The Mets are without Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo, both listed as day-to-day with injuries.

Joining the infielder on the Major League Baseball callup is Canadian pitcher Brandon Waddell.

Waddell, 30, returns to the majors after appearing in one game earlier this season. He threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 30 in his first major league appearance in four years.

His call-up comes on the heels of a 13-inning contest Friday in which the Mets depleted their bullpen.
