Gold on the beach

Hallie Drezet took her volleyball game to the beach on the weekend, all the way to a 16-and-under title.

Drezet, a Prince George Youth Volleyball Club athlete, teamed up with Penticton's Sydney McKinlay to win the Okanagan Sand Series beach volleyball tournament at Skaha Beach in Penticton.

The pair, competing together for the first time, went undefeated in the 16U division, including a straight-sets win in the final.

Drezet and McKinlay were also indoor teammates in July when they joined top female athletes in the province on Team B.C. Blue at the Western Elites championship in Edmonton. The Blue squad finished fourth and Drezet was named a tournament all-star.

Organized by the Lakes Community Horse Club, action gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at the outdoor Nukko Lake facility.

Devils, Bandits preparing for battle

The Westwood Pub Devils and BX Pub Bandits face off Friday afternoon on the floor of Kin 1 to kick off this weekend's Treasure Cove Casino senior invitational/senior C provincial championship.

The Devils and Bandits are among four local teams that will compete in the three-day tournament.

The Devils swept the Northland Nissan Assault in a best-of-seven series to win the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association title last month. The Cowboy Ranch/Regional Security Stylers round out the P.G. field.

The Port Moody Express have won the senior C banner the past three seasons and will be in Prince George this weekend to defend their title.

The Devils and Bandits square off at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by a 6 p.m. tilt between the Stylers and Assault.

The Express hit the floor at 8 p.m. against the Devils.

Play continues all day Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Games will resume Sunday at 9 a.m.

The third- and fourth-place squads battle at 1 p.m. Sunday for the bronze medal, while the first- and second-place sides go for gold Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
