For the past 25 years, hundreds of residents in Prince George have participated in the Prince George Iceman competition.

On Feb. 12, those daring enough to enter will lace-up their ski boots and ski for eight kilometres, then jump into running shoes and run for 10 kilometres from the ski facility to the outdoor ice oval. From there competitors will swap running shoes for their ice skates and skate five kilometres outdoors in the new outdoor oval. If that's not enough, the runners go back on and another five kilometre run is ahead of them. And if that isn't enough an 800 metre swim is in store to round out the event.

"It's just a very unique event where you do all these multi-sport events that appeal to a lot of people. You have for the ski, run, skate, run and finally the swim. It's a lot of fun for families and groups that come out there looking to have a good time," said John Martin, the organizer of this year's race.

Despite the event's milestone anniversary, it will be status quo in terms of the race organization.

"We will run the race as usual and hopefully continue to build the event within Prince George," said Martin.

The one thing the organizers are hoping for is good weather.

"Ideally, we would like to see fresh snow, -10C, and clear skies," said Martin. The rules state if the mercury falls any lower than -20C it will be canceled.

Martin says this will be his final year organizing the event and the board will be looking for more committee members so the race can continue in the future.

The fees for individuals are $70, team members $40 and juniors (under 16) $20 until Feb 1. The prices go up by five dollars after Feb.1.
