The up-and-coming stars of equestrian sports - human and horse - will be vying for spots on the B.C. Summer Games team this weekend at the North Central B.C. CADORA show-jumping dressage and hack show at Exhibition Park.

Sponsored by the Canadian Dressage Owners and Riders Association (CADORA), the three-day event at the Prince George Agriplex indoor and outdoor arenas starts this morning at 9. Athletes in dressage and show-jumping who were between the ages of 11 and 18 as of Jan. 1 are eligible to compete for four north central zone positions and wildcard spots to compete in the Summer Games in Abbotsford, July 21-24.

"The highlights for spectators would be the indoor show-jumping finals for the higher levels Friday at 6:30 and there's jumping all day Saturday outdoors for the little kids," said show organizer Jodie Baker.

The Summer Games dressage qualifier, set for Saturday at 4 p.m. in the indoor arena, is another highlight of the weekend, said Baker. Between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. Saturday, competitors will show their skills to the indoor audience performing choreographed routines on horses decked out in costumes.

The weekend show, which wraps up Sunday at 5 p.m., also includes adults, with 60 competitors entered.
