Hogh right on target

Kelsy Hogh is one step closer to defending her provincial title.

Kelsy Hogh is one step closer to defending her provincial title.

Hogh, a local five-pin bowler, won a zone playdown on the weekend and qualified for the singles competition at the 2011 Coastal Insurance Provincial Open, April 22-24 at Prince George's Black Diamond Lanes and Nechako Lanes.

At last year's B.C. tournament in Kamloops, Hogh edged Lower Mainland player Dana Myran for the singles championship and a spot in nationals. Against the best in Canada, Hogh rolled to bronze.

At zones, which were also at Black Diamond and Nechako, Hogh had a 16-game total of 4,050 for an average of 253.1. Her high single game was 330. Kim Thompson (3,679) was second and Kayla Clark (3,664) placed third. All three women qualified for the singles and team competition at provincials.

Other members of the women's team will be Leighanne Paul (3,440), Maryann Sanders (3,377) and youth bowler Darci Shelke (3,319). Shelke is eligible for the open provincials because she's in her last year of YBC play.

On the men's side, Jasen Florell was the high roller at zones. His 16-game total was 4,179, good for a 261.2 average. Florell's best single-game score was 338. He finished ahead of Iain MacRitchie (4,033) and Chito Tecson (3,945). All three bowlers earned singles and team spots in provincials.

Paul Wilson (3,874), Bob Piner (3,846) and Aaron Middlemiss (3,837) will round out the men's team.

A mixed team will also be on the lanes at provincials. Those players are Rhonda Meise, Dawn Gunderson, Debbie Janzen, Leo Durau, Ryan Bourne and Bob Wilson.

All of the above bowlers are from Prince George.
