Despite scholarship offers from a trio of American universities, Amy Hogan will not pursue a post-secondary volleyball career. Hogan, one of the most skilled players in the B.C. high school system, will instead focus completely on her education. Next school year, she will attend UNBC, where she'll start working toward a degree in biology. Her goal is to eventually become a pediatrician or emergency room doctor.

"It's a shock to everyone at first," said Hogan, who has been the offensive catalyst of the senior Duchess Park Condors since her Grade 9 year. "When I was telling my friends, they were like, 'What are you doing?! What?? This is not right! Have you thought about this?' and I was like, 'Yes, guys, I've thought about this for two years, I know what I'm doing.' For everyone, it's hard to take at first because (volleyball) has been my whole life. Since I was five, it's been volleyball."
