The Prince George Cougars have added 20-year-old forward Ryan Hanes to their Western Hockey League roster. Hanes, who started the year with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the B.C. Hockey League, will fill the overage spot of captain Brock Hirsche, who suffered a long-term injury in a Friday loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Hirsche sustained an upper body injury in the 4-2 setback and has been placed on the 30-day injury list. He had season-ending shoulder surgery last December. In 2011-12, he appeared in only eight games.
Hanes is a five-foot-10, 186-pound left winger from Kamloops who has spent parts of four seasons with his hometown Blazers. In 181 games, he has recorded 15 goals and 40 points, including eight goals and 22 points in 55 games last season.
Hanes skated in 20 games with the Capitals this season and put up 12 goals and 25 points. He is scheduled to practice with the Cats on Thursday and is expected to be in their lineup when they host the Saskatoon Blades on Friday.
