Great White North lacrosse covering Kin floor

The Prince George Minor Lacrosse Association is caught in the mesh of an ebb and flow cycle.

The Prince George Minor Lacrosse Association is caught in the mesh of an ebb and flow cycle.

Numbers of registered players this season in the league's novice, peewee, bantam and midget divisions are down slightly, but based on the trend of the past few years, that's no real cause for concern.

"We're down a little but it's still healthy," said PGMLA president Richard Paciejewski. "We're at about 170 players and I think it was over 200 last year. It seems to have that swing of 30 every couple years."

The Great White North League is into its second week, with games this weekend in Prince George at the Kin Centre, which has been plagued lately by a leaky roof. Water dripping onto the floor at Kin 1 Thursday forced some minor house league lacrosse games to be postponed.

Bantam games are scheduled for today at Kin 1, starting at 9:30 a.m. with the Prince George Posse taking on Quesnel, followed by the Mackenzie-Williams Lake game at 11. The Posse plays Williams Lake at 2 p.m., and Quesnel meets Mackenzie at 3:30.

Kin 2 will be the site of Great White North novice games involving Prince George, Mackenzie, Quesnel and Williams Lake today, starting at 9:30 a.m. with the Prince George-Quesnel game. The midgets from the same four cities play Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing with the last game of the day, starting at 3:30 p.m.

n The Prince George peewee Posse team, under head coach Don Wittmeier, is in Penticton for a tournament this weekend.

n Lacrosse provincial championships will be hosted in Vernon (peewee A1, A2, B and C, July 6-10); Victoria (bantam A1, A2, B and C, July 13-17) and Coquitlam (midget A1, A2, B and C, July 6-10). Port Coquitlam will host the female provincial tournaments for peewee, bantam, midget and junior age divisions, July 6-10.

n In Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association action this weekend at Kin 1, the Shooters Pub Devils take on the Riverstone Pub/Regional Security Stylers tonight at 6 p.m., followed at 8 by the BX Pub Bandits-Mackenzie Lumberjacks game. The Lumberjacks battle the College Heights Pub Assault Sunday at 11 a.m. also at Kin 1.
