The Prince George Gnats are proving to be the power of the Central Interior Rugby Union.

The local team was in Prince Rupert on the weekend and thundered to impressive wins against the Terrace Northmen and Prince Rupert Seamen. With the results -- 33-12 over the Northmen and 45-7 over the Seamen -- the Gnats pushed their CIRU record to 6-0.

In the game against Terrace, the Gnats -- with a display of fitness and skill -- broke things open in the second half. Dave McMullen, Troy McKenzie, Alex Matter and Ty Smith all scored tries for Prince George.

Shortly after the final whistle, the Gnats stepped right back on the pitch to face the Seamen, who have made a habit of dominating their opponents in recent years. But, an early try by McKenzie -- who sidestepped a would-be tackler and threw the Prince Rupert back line into a state of confusion -- gave the P.G. side all the momentum it needed.

Next up for the Gnats is a trip to Williams Lake, where they will battle the host Rustlers on June 25.
