It's never too early for the Prince George Gnats to start swarming.
They were pests all weekend to their opponents at the Edmonton Rugbyfest sevens tournament over the weekend in Edmonton, winning three of four games to finish third overall.
The only blemish on their record came in the first match -- a 33-17 loss to the Simon Fraser University Dragons. Playing two seven-minute halves, a slow start proved too much to overcome for the P.G. boys.
They didn't break a sweat in winning their next game, a 5-0 forfeit, when the Calgary Hornets failed to show up on the field. The Gnats saved the best of the weekend for their next game against a familiar opponent, the Williams Lake Rustlers, winning 30-5. The Gnats' defence was airtight and jaw-rattling and the offence was also clicking as Jamie Sims, Josh Swain, Justin Gerard and the ageless Troy McKenzie all scoring tries.
Prince George finished up Sunday morning with a 25-10 victory over the Regina Prairie Fire. McKenzie, Brian Tate, Alex Forrester and Theo Ludwig accounted for the Gnats' scoring.
