Dan Gallo is back on the world armwrestling stage.

Ranked second in Canada, the Prince George Armwrestling Club member is pulling for the 165-pound open left- and right-hand titles at the world championships in Mesquite, Nev.

Gallo, 26, starts today with the left-hand competition and chances are he'll run into Michael Barrett of Manitoba. Barrett won the Canadian titles for both hands at the national championships in Winnipeg in September when Gallo fouled out.

The right-handed competition is set for Saturday.

Gallo competed at the 2008 world championships in Kelowna and placed 10th overall in the open class with his left hand and was 11th with his right.

Vern Martel of Prince George, a 13-time world champion, was in position to qualify for this year's world championship, having won the B.C. championship in the disability right-handed category, but a new job commitment ruled out taking a run at the Nevada tournament for the 48-year-old Martel.
