Chase Golightly has turned a stellar season on the Prince George Spruce Kings blueline into a scholarship opportunity at Robert Morris University.
The 19-year-old committed to play for the Colonials, a NCAA Division 1 school of about 5,000 students near Pittsburgh for the 2012-13 season.
Golightly joined the Kings in December 2010 and played 84 games with the British Columbia Hockey League team over the course of two seasons. In his stint with the Kings, Golightly had eight goals, 48 assists and 71 minutes in penalties. The 56 points place the offensive defenceman in the Top 10 among Kings' blueliners for all-time career points.
The Colonials play out of the Atlantic Hockey Association.
Golightly is the fourth Kings' player from the past season to make the leap to a NCAA Division 1 school behind 20-year-old Michael Colantone (UMass-Lowell); 19-year-old Paul De Jersey (Providence); and 17-year-old Jujhar Kharia (Michigan Tech).
Both Kharia and De Jersey were listed as Top 100 prospects by NHL Central Scouting on Monday for the 2012 NHL draft in Pittsburgh in June. In addition, Prince George Cougars forwards Troy Bourke and Dalton Siwak also made the final list.
Prince George's Michael King has also committed to play for the Colorado College Tigers, an NCAA Division 1 school in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2012-13 season.
King started last season with the BCHL's Westside Warriors before being dealt in January to the AJHL's Lloydminster Bobcats. In 32 games with the Warriors he had 15 assists for 19 points. In five appearances with the Bobcats he had a power-play goal and two assists. In the 2010-11 season, King accumulated 23 points in 48 games with Westside.
