Former Prince George Spruce Kings forward Kolton Cousins has landed on the radar of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association.
The 22-year-old native of Sechelt has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the Canucks Alumni group to be used to pay for Cousins’ education where he attends classes at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
The former Spruce Kings captain played five seasons in the BCHL, including one season with the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
He joined the Kings seven games into the 2019-20 season and played 123 regular season games for Prince George in which he collected 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points. He also had two goals and three assists in 14 playoff games and was part of the Spruce Kings’ pod championship team in Chilliwack during the pandemic 2021 season.
Cousins played this past season in U SPORTS with the Queen’s University Golden Gaels, while studying arts and sciences. In 28 games he drew one assist and 34 penalty minutes.
The Canucks Alumni award is in recognition of the player’s level of community service, volunteerism, good citizenship and academic standing.
The group annually distributes $40,000 in scholarships to hockey players from B.C. and in its 50-year history has donated $875,000 in scholarships.
