Football season done for northern teams

The Duchess Park Condors saw their varsity double-A football season come to an end Saturday with a 50-24 loss to Mission of the B.C. High School Football League's Eastern Conference at B.C Place in round one of the provincial playoffs.

The Duchess Park Condors saw their varsity double-A football season come to an end Saturday with a 50-24 loss to Mission of the B.C. High School Football League's Eastern Conference at B.C Place in round one of the provincial playoffs.

Duchess Park finished the regular season atop the Northern Conference with a 6-0 record, before beating the Correlieu Clan (Quesnel) in the semifinal, but their perfect season ended Nov. 4 in the P.G. Bowl with a 13-6 loss to the Nechako Valley Vikings (6-3) of Vanderhoof.

Despite the loss, it was still a successful season for several members of the Condors' football program as Josh Hughson led all double-A players with 701 yards rushing in six games, while his teammate Montell Lindgren was the leader in receiving with 33 receptions for 490 yards and in punt returns with seven for 157 yards.

Kelly Road rookie kicker Jordan Thorkelson also topped the league with 16 punts for 595 yards, an average of more than 37 yards per kick.

The Vikings were also defeated in Kamloops, 21-14 in overtime by Vernon of the Okanagan Conference.
