The reign continues.
Thursday night at the Roll-A-Dome, Cap-abilities won the playoff championship in the Prince George Masters Ball Hockey League for the fifth consecutive year. Caps swept the Predators in a best-of-three final, 5-3 and 11-4. Cap-abilities has now rolled to 20-straight playoff victories and has claimed eight of the past 10 playoff titles.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, Game 1 of the final was tied 3-3 but then Mike Legg fired the winning goal. Other Cap-abilities markers came from Scott Cunningham (2), Kurt Budesheim and Tom Jandric. Patrick Rose, Kal Kang and Glen Fugate responded for the Predators.
In Game 2, Caps jumped out to a 7-1 lead and coasted to the win. In the clincher, Budesheim and Jandric both finished with hat tricks. Greg Willis connected for a pair, while Cunningham, Tom Ferris and Hartley Miller all scored singles. Legg chipped in with four assists. For the Predators, Rose scored twice, while Kang and Fugate also found the net.
Cap-abilities was the regular-season champion with a 28-2-2 record. Its only two losses came at the hands of the second-place Predators (18-11-3).
The league will hold its year-end banquet Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Boston Pizza.
