The streak is now up to 15.
As in 15 straight wins the Northland Dodge Northern Female Cougars have rattled off since their last loss Sept. 26 in Vernon.
The Cougars kept the streak alive on the weekend at the Coliseum when they swept the visiting Thompson-Okanagan Lakers in a three-game regular-season set in the B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA League.
It was the same Lakers squad that last beat the Cougars 2-1 on Sept. 26 in the North Okanagan city.
But that was more than a month ago and the Cougars haven't looked back since.
They're now 16-2 and lead the league with 32 points, with a five-point cushion over the second-place West Coast Avalanche (13-4-1).
The Lakers fell to 6-11-1, good for fourth place in the league.
Cougars head coach Mario Desjardins said a number of factors have been key to the team's success so far.
"We've got three balanced lines who've contributed and we've had solid defence," said Desjardins. "Our goal was to keep the shots on goal under 20 and for the most part we've done that. We've taken care of our own end. And [goaltender] Emilie [Nichols] has played a lot with Kelsey [Roberts] being hurt. We have a balanced lineup and everybody has contributed."
Roberts is out with a wrist injury.
The Cougars have the top four scorers in the league, led by forward Ava Keis with 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points. Sage Desjardins has collected 12 goals and 17 assists, Marissa Nichol has tallied 10 goals and 15 assists and Hunter Mosher has nine goals and 12 assists.
Sage Desjardins was named the league's player of the month for October.
On the weekend, Nichol, Fjellstrom and Keis all scored in the second period in Sunday's 3-2 victory. The Lakers had a 1-0 lead in the first and made things interesting with a power-play goal in the third period. Nichols swept aside 27 of 29 shots she faced to earn the win. The Cougars fired 39 shots on the Lakers net.
On Saturday, the Cats dominated play, outshooting the Lakers 42-14.
Thompson-Okanagan started out strong though, scoring midway through the first period. Mosher and Nichol tallied late in the frame to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
In the second period, defenceman Chantelle Beadman-Rolph scored twice (including the eventual winner). The Lakers responded with a goal late in the period for a 4-2 final. Nichols picked up the win in net.
In Friday's 7-1 win for the Cougars, Mosher pocketed two goals and an assist; Fjellstrom had a goal and three assists; Taylor Beck netted a goal and two two assists and Keis had a goal and an assist. Grace Barlow and Nichol rounded out the scoring.
"We had a good team game Friday night and came back with two tight games," said coach Desjardins. "The Lakers definitely came out strong Saturday and Sunday and we didn't play up to our potential. The Lakers are getting better and they got good goaltending. We'll take the three wins and keep pace with the Avalanche."
The Cougars now have 12 days off, though they'll still be practicing with their full slate of players as they get set to travel to Coquitlam to face the Avalanche for a three-game series Nov. 21-23.
"That will be a huge weekend versus the Avalanche," said Desjardins. "It will certainly set the tone for the rest of the season. There will be more pressure on them to take the six points but we have pressure on ourselves. We'll either be up one point [if we lose] or up by 11 points [if we win]."
