The Prince George Cougars announced their home schedule for the 2022-23 season Thursday and it starts with their season-opening game on Friday, Sept. 23 against the Tri-City Americans.

Of the 34 games they will play next season at CN Centre, the Cats have nine midweek games. The rest, with the exception of a Family Day Feb. 20th encounter with the Portland Winterhawks, will be played on weekends.

For the first time in three years, WHL teams will play interdivisional opponents and for B.C. Division teams like the Cougars it’s their turn to host teams from the East Division. That will allow Cougar fans to watch generational talent Connor Bedard play for the Regina Pats when they visit Prince George on De. 2nd.

In other East Division matchups the Cougars will face the Brandon Wheat Kings (Oct. 12), Winnipeg ICE (Oct. 15), Moose Jaw Warriors (Nv. 23) and Prince Albert Raiders (Jan. 28).

2022-23 marks the Cougars’ 29th season in the Western Hockey League since the franchise moved north from Victoria in 1994.

Earlier this week, the Cougars announced they’ve signed 2007-born forward Lee Shurgot, their ninth-overall pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, to a standard WHL agreement. Shurgot, a Saskatoon native, scored 57 goals and had 43 assists for 100 points in 31 games last season for the Saskatoon Generals of the Saskatchewan U15 double-A Hockey League.
