Mitch Duthie has started his college volleyball career with a bang.
Lots of them, in fact.
Duthie, a Prince George product who attended high school at Kelly Road secondary, slammed 21 kill shots for the College of the Rockies Avalanche in a pair of match victories against the Columbia Bible College Bearcats last weekend in Cranbrook. Duthie's dominance at the net earned him player of the week honours in the PACWEST Athletic Association.
Both wins against the Abbotsford-based Bearcats were 3-0 sweeps.
Duthie is a six-foot-six right side hitter who honed his skills in the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club.
The Avalanche took a 3-3 record into a Friday match against the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
Prince George's Trevor Zemlak, a power hitter, is also a member of the Avalanche, as is Quesnel's Riley Young.
