Dempsey fired from Spruce Kings - update on new hire

The Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL have fired long-time head coach and general manager Ed Dempsey, The Citizen has learned.

The Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL have fired long-time head coach and general manager Ed Dempsey, The Citizen has learned.

Dempsey, whose club is languishing at the bottom of the BCHL standings, was told of his fate Tuesday night, according to sources.

Dempsey coached the WHL's Cougars for six-plus seasons before being fired in the fall of 2003, and being hired by the Kings on Jan. 1, 2004. He was coach of the Kings for the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup.

The Spruce Kings announced Dave Dupas will take over as head coach of the team.
Dupas, a native of Burnaby who coached the Williams Lake Timberwolves for one-third of a season in 2009-10, will join the team on the road in Westside, where the Kings face the Warriors Thursday night. They also play in Merritt on Friday before returning to the Coliseum to take on the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday.More details to follow.
