His provincial plans didn't come to fruition with his men's team. Michael Dahms will still get the chance to throw stones for a B.C. title.

Tuesday in Prince Rupert, Dahms and his rink of Courtney Walch, Ron Vanderstar and Trish McLeod will start play at the Williams Moving and Storage B.C. mixed curling championship. The eight-team bonspiel is a qualifier for the 2012 nationals, next November in Sudbury, Ont.

Earlier this season, Dahms and a Prince George Golf and Curling Club crew that featured J.T. Blanchett, Chris Calder and Matt Gyorfi tried twice to qualify for the men's provincials and fell short both times.

That fact makes this week's appearance in the mixed championship even sweeter for Dahms.

"Any time you qualify for a provincials, it's a pretty good year," said Dahms, who was raised in Terrace and moved to Prince George to attend university. "It's even better going back to the area where I grew up. I've had a lot of people say they're going to try to make it to Prince Rupert for the day to come and watch some games. My parents and my grandparents, an aunt and uncle, and my younger brother all live in Terrace still."

Dahms will face Doug Marshall of Chilliwack in today's first draw.
