UNBC women defeat American squad in exhibition play

Anytime a Canadian college basketball team defeats an American counterpart, that's news.

The UNBC women's basketball team did just that on Wednesday, soundly trouncing South Mountain Community College 72-50 as part of the Phoenix Cactus Jam exhibition tournament.

"The girls played very well," said UNBC athletics director and acting coach Jason Kerswill, who is filling in with Loralyn Murdoch away on medical leave.

Emily Kaehn, a second-year forward from Hixon, had 15 points to lead UNBC in scoring, with Jenn Clyne chipping in with 11 points. Fourth-year post Erin Beckett had 10 points.

The day before, UNBC dropped a 64-62 decision to Phoenix College.

Today, UNBC will take on Yavapai Community College.

--- The UNBC men's team, playing in a tournament at SAIT in Calgary, played the Keyano College Huskies of Fort McMurray on Wednesday, with the result not available by press time. Today, UNBC is slated to play the SAIT Trojans.
