Croatia books spot in soccer final

Two well-placed blasts sent Mr. Jake's/Croatia to the playoff championship game.

Two well-placed blasts sent Mr. Jake's/Croatia to the playoff championship game.

During a Sunday Division 1 semifinal in the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League, Croatia got second-half goals from Andy Green and Mark Schomburg and beat Accelerated Physiotherapy 3-1. The markers, scored during a 10-minute stretch of dominance by Croatia, were both of the highest quality. Green hammered a ball from outside the top of the 18-yard box and, moments later, Schomburg followed his teammate's example with a long bomb of his own.

"We finished our chances, that was the big thing," said Green, a 28-year-old striker. "We haven't done it much all season and we happened to capitalize on our chances (Sunday)."

With Sunday's result, Croatia advanced to play either top-seeded Formula United FC (10-3-1) or the fifth-ranked PGYSA Kodiaks (4-10-1). Those clubs will meet in a Thursday semifinal, which will start at 7:30 p.m. at the NCSSL fields.
