The Cats, the first-place team in the B.C. Division of the Western Hockey League, made no moves in advance of the WHL trade deadline, which struck on Monday.

"We're happy with our guys, obviously, and where we're at, but the prices were very high today," said Dallas Thompson, general manager of the Cougars. "We just feel that we've worked very hard to get the young guys we've drafted and have them signed and committed and we're not going to give them away."

Thompson said he didn't get any offers from other WHL general managers but did make some. If the Cougars could have added a piece, it would have been a depth defenceman.

"That's what I was looking for," Thompson said. "We've gone with seven d-men and this is probably the first time in probably eight years we've done that. Touch wood, it's been good for us because we haven't had many injuries but that can thin itself out in a hurry."

The most significant deal made Monday saw Brayden Schenn -- the MVP of the world junior hockey championship -- move from the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Saskatoon Blades. The Wheaties also sent a 2012 third-round bantam draft pick to the Blades. In return, they got first-rounders in 2011 and 2012, a second-rounder in 2011, a first-round pick in the 2012 CHL import draft and two players -- Ayrton Nikkel and Tim McGauley.

The Cougars (21-16-2-1) will be in Vancouver tonight to play the Giants (19-18-1-4).
