After two days of training camp the Prince George Cougars reduced its roster Sunday afternoon, releasing 15 skaters and five goaltenders.
The Western Hockey League club was expected to let another 12 skaters go after the annual young guns game Sunday night - no veterans were playing in the game. Cougars coaching staff wanted to go into tonight's inter-squad game at CN Centre [7 p.m., $2 to get in] with 40 skaters.
Before the club leaves for St. Albert on Saturday for the annual Edmonton Oil Kings preseason tournament - the Cougars play the Calgary Hitmen and Red Deer Rebels - there could be five to 10 more roster cuts.
All four of the five goaltenders - Drew Owsley, 20, Tyler Santos, 17, Devon Fordyce, 17, and Brett Zarowny, 16, should still be with the Cougars, while Ty Edmonds, 15, needs to earn a longer visit.
Brett Connolly, 19, wasn't at camp on the weekend, due to an NHLPA commitment in Toronto, but will be in Prince George this week, while defenceman Jesse Forsberg [shoulder] was in injury bay, recuperating from off-season surgery.
