Like a strong wind the Prince George midget tier 2 Hurricane High Pressure Cougars blew through Dawson Creek last weekend, out-scoring their opponents 33-7 to nab the gold medal.

Since the calendar turned to 2012, the Cougars have compiled a 14-0 record, sweeping every team they've played in three tournaments. They've put up 97 goals while giving up only 26. In the gold-medal game in Dawson Creek the Cougars were matched against Fort St. John - the team that snagged gold from them at December's Grande Prairie tournament.

It was a different story this time as the Cougars shutdown

Fort St. John 4-0.

The road to redemption was paved with round-robin wins over Peace River Burns Lake and Grande Prairie. The Cougars opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over Peace River with Kyle Serup getting the Prince George boys off to a good start with his first goal of the season. Donavon Law potted two goals and Thane Anderson added three helpers.

After an 8-2 win over Burns Lake - Joey Matzelle and Hayden Pederson each scored twice for the Cougars - the Prince George team followed up with a 7-2 win over Grande Prairie. Law scored the hat trick and added an assist against Grande Prairie.

Jeremy Matte secured the wins in the Cougars' net against Peace River and Grande Prairie, while Kyle Wilson earned the win against Burns Lake.

In the semifinal game, the Cougars drew a rematch with Peace River, but the Alberta team couldn't keep up with their Prince George opponents, falling 9-2 with Gabe Mason notching a pair of goals for the Cougars while seven other players found the twine.

In their first tournament in January the Cougars earned gold in Fort St. John and followed it up

Jan. 13 to 15 with a gold in the

Kamloops tournament.

The Cougars faced their nemesis Williams Lake in the opening game in Kamloops, a team they had a 1-4 record against and who they'll have to beat at the end of February if they want a crack at the provincial championship in Saanich.

Williams Lake opened the scoring, but it was all Cougars

afterwards in an 8-4 win.

Prince George went on to beat Abbotsford 4-3; Kelowna 3-1; and then secured a berth in the final with a 8-5 semifinal win over the Wenatchee Wild from Washington. In the final the Cougars were matched against their hosts from Kamloops.

Despite the Cougars and Kamloops exchanging wins and a tie this season it was all Prince George in the final as they built a 6-2 lead after the first period and went on to a 10-4 win.

The Cougars are off this weekend before heading to Prince Rupert in February.
