After a slow start to the season the Prince George midget tier 2 Hurricane High Pressure Cougars have found their groove.
Since early November the Cougars have a record of 14-4-1 after starting the Prince George Minor Hockey Association season at 2-6 and have placed second at two consecutive tournaments.
Last weekend, the Cougars compiled a 4-1 record at a tournament in Grande Prairie, losing the final to a well-rested Fort St. John team 4-2. Prince George returned to the ice for the final soon after beating Dawson Creek 3-1 in their final round-robin game, while it was Fort St. John's first game of the day.
As a result, the Cougars fell behind 3-0 after 40 minutes, but after a rousing pep talk from their coaches Lucas Ens scored a pair of goals to bring Prince George within one at 3-2. A parade to the penalty box by the Cougars killed any chance of completing the comeback and Fort St. John ensured their victory when they scored with 1:30 remaining.
In the round robin, the Cougars beat Fort St. John 5-2. The other round-robin games were: a 10-0 win over Grande Prairie, as Devin Hartney picked up the hat trick and a 10-3 win over Manning with Hayden Pederson accounting for five goals.
Prince George placed second in their own tournament Nov. 18 to 20, losing in the final to Smithers.
