Cougars, Condars off to boys' volleyball semifinals

The College Heights Cougars and Duchess Park Condors have both advanced to the semifinals at the 2011 double-A senior boys' volleyball provincial championship in Kelowna.

The College Heights Cougars and Duchess Park Condors have both advanced to the semifinals at the 2011 double-A senior boys' volleyball provincial championship in Kelowna.

In Friday's quarterfinal action, the Cougars defeated Highland 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-17) and the Condors earned a 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 25-17 and 15-13) victory over the George Elliot Secondary Coyotes (Winfield).

Tonight at 6:30 the third-seeded Cougars play the second-seeded Langley Christian Lightning for the right to play for gold Saturday. The game will be streamed online at www.highschoolboysvolleyball.sd23.bc.ca.

In their round-robin meeting Wednesday the Cougars lost to the Lightning 2-0 (19-25, 22-25).

The fourth-seeded Condors play the top-seeded Mennonite Education Institute Eagles (Abbotsford) in the other semifinal.

MEI finished the round-robin Wednesday on top of power pool 1 with a 3-0 record followed by the Lightning at 2-1 and Cougars at 1-2. The Condors were 0-3.

In the head-to-head match between the Prince George schools the Cougars beat the Condors 25-16, 25-20.
