The long wait is over.

The most anticipated golf event in Northern B.C. is back, with a new look on Saturday, July 10.

The Prince George Cougars, the Prince George Cougars Alumni Association, the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, and Northland Dodge are proud to present the Prince George Cougars Alumni Million Dollar Hole-In-One Charity Golf Tournament.

Last year, the ninth annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cougars understand the importance of this tournament and together with the organizing committee have adapted the event format to follow current COVID-19 regulations.

“I’m really proud of and grateful to everyone involved in helping to ensure this important tournament is going to go ahead this year, and despite some huge hurdles we have had to overcome to make it work, I’m confident that our golf community will rally behind what is sure to be a fun tournament,” said Cougars’ vice president, business Andy Beesley. “Most importantly, we’re raising much needed money for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, and the Cougars will do everything we can to continue to support this important work.”

All proceeds from this year’s tournament at Prince George Golf and Curling Club will go towards cardiac care for the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. The tournament raised more than $75,000 in 2019 and since its inception, $558,000 has been raised for equipment that has primarily focused on cardiac care for Northern B.C.

“We are excited to see this return after a very long year of anticipating whether we could actually put something together or not, but we are excited to share this with so many of our supporters,” said Judy Neiser, CEO for Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“Healthcare has definitely touched us all this year, and cardiac care is still in the forefront of healthcare concerns. State-of-the-art equipment, advancing diagnosis, treatment and follow up care are all top of mind. We are grateful to once again partner with the Prince George Cougars and Prince George Cougars Alumni to once again provide a positive impact on health outcomes in the North.”

An exciting new feature for this year will see golfers have an opportunity to shoot for a million dollars. Each participant will get an entry to win one of 10 chances to shoot for the one-million-dollar hole-in-one. Additional entries for the draw are available for $50 each or three for $100. Participants with golf pro status or designation are not eligible for the hole-in-one contest.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, space is limited to teams and players. Registration includes a round of golf, two drink tickets, dinner, and entry into the hole-in-one draw.

Northland Dodge is the tournament’s title sponsor. Gold, silver, and bronze sponsorship packages are available. Sponsor packages are as follows:

  • Gold ($5,000) - includes one team (four).
  • Silver ($3,500) - $100 per player and a tax receipt for $100.
  • Bronze ($2,500)- $200 per player and a tax receipt for $200.

Alumni confirmed for this year’s tournament include former NHL defencemen Eric Brewer and Dan Hamhuis.
