Connections to P.G. run deep for Linden

Trevor Linden says he won't be bringing his hockey gear, but he won't completely rule out his participation on the ice in Prince George in the Y Champions Hockey Weekend.

The two-day event, a fundraiser for the Family Y of Prince George, will feature a one-day tournament on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Kin 1. Participation is limited to just six teams of 12-15 players and Linden doesn't plan on suiting up as a ringer for any one of those teams.

"It's a real grassroots initiative and the YMCA does such great things in the community," said Linden. "With the hockey connection it was a pretty natural fit. I may do a fun thing on the ice but I won't be playing."

"I've certainly had some connection to Prince George. Fortunately I've met some kids from Prince George and Dylan was a good friend of mine, so I've been up to Prince George a few times."

Linden got to know Dylan Mikolajczyk of Nukko Lake while he was receiving treatments in Vancouver during the Canucks hospital visits. Dylan died in May 2008 and Linden attended his funeral.
