Condors finding their wings

The Duchess Park Condors are finally getting healthy. They're also showing how good they are when they have a full lineup.

The Duchess Park Condors are finally getting healthy. They're also showing how good they are when they have a full lineup.

The Condors, with prime-time players like Nathaniel Pawluk and Eric Kidwell back from the injured list, claimed top spot at a senior boys basketball tournament in Kamloops on the weekend. Playing at Sa-Hali secondary, the Condors went to overtime in Saturday's championship game and downed the Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers 82-76. Montell Lindgren had the hot hand in the final for Duchess Park and pumped in 32 points. Lindgren was later picked as the tournament's most valuable player, while point guard Luke Holmes made the first all-star team.

Lindgren and Holmes were so effective in part because they had a stronger supporting cast around them. That cast included forwards Pawluk (broken nose) and Kidwell (concussion), who are now fully recovered from injuries.

"We've had guys out for two, three weeks at different times so this was the first weekend where we had most of our key players," said Condors coach Dave Holmes, noting that guard Josh Hughson was absent because of football commitments.
