The Duchess Park Condors were right in the medal hunt at the triple-A girls provincial championship in Parksville.
Unfortunately for the Condors, there were no Angels on their side.
In fact, the Little Flower Academy Angels were devils in disguise.
They defeated the Condors to claim bronze at the 16-team tournament Saturday in Parksville. Scores from the bronze-medal match were not reported to the Citizen, nor were they posted on the tournament website. South Delta defeated Timberline in the championship match.
The Condors, who lost in the final of the north central zone championship to the College Heights Cougars, were ranked fourth going into the provincial playoffs. The third-ranked Cougars beat Hugh McRoberts in a playoff Saturday to finish 13th.
Duchess Park was selected as the most sportsmanlike team and Condors veteran Hallie Drezet was picked for the second all-star team.
Meanwhile at the single-A girls championship in Kelowna, the eighth-ranked Cedars Christian Eagles were eliminated from medal contention with a quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Mt. Sentinel after starting the tournament 4-0 and played a playoff match Saturday afternoon against Richmond. Results of that match were unavailable on the tournament website and were not reported.
At the double-A girls provincial championship in Mill Bay, the D..P. Todd Trojans ended their season on a winning note, defeating Elphinstone 2-1 (25-22, 20-25, 16-14). Pacific Academy won the championship over Ladysmith.
At the double-A boys tournament in Langley, the D.P. Todd Trojans lost the fifth-place match to Surrey Christian 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) and finished sixth. The College Heights Cougars placed eighth after losing the seventh-place playoff to Langley Christian 2-0 (25-21, 25-22).
At the triple-A boys tournament in Langley, the Prince George Polars lost the 20th-place playoff to North Peace of Fort St. John 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 15-10).
