The Duchess Park Condors are getting closer to their ultimate goal.

The Condors, ranked fourth in the province, advanced to the semifinal round at the triple-A girls high school volleyball championship in Parksville after they defeated Prince of Wales of Vancouver three sets to none in a playoff Friday.

Duchess Park went on to play Ballenas of Qualicum in a late semifinal match Friday. The result was not available as of press time. The winner moves on to today's gold-medal final. The other semifinal matchup pitted Timberline against Dover.

One other Prince George team remained in title contention Friday. The Cedars Christian Eagles improved to 4-0 at the single-A girls provincial tournament in Kelowna . A 2-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) win over Mulgrave in the quarterfinal round put the Eagles into the final four. The Eagles met Mt. Sentinel in a semifinal match Friday night. Scores were unavailable at press time.

It was a day of disappointment for the College Heights Cougars, who lost their triple-A girls quarterfinal match 3-0 to Ballenas. College Heights, the third-ranked team in the 16-team tournament, started the day Friday with a 3-1 win over Caledonia of Terrace.

At the boys double-A championship in Langley, the D.P. Todd Trojans were knocked out of the championships round but will play for fifth place today. After losing to MEI 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-4) in a quarterfinal Thursday, the Trojans won a consolation match, defeating Surrey Christian 2-0 (25-19, 32-30). That qualified the Trojans for the fifth-sixth-place playoff today at 12:45 against Langley Christian, 2-0 (25-13, 25-19) winners Friday over the College Heights Cougars.

The Cougars, who suffered a straight-set (23-25, 19-25) loss to Prince Margaret Thursday night, will face Langley Christian today to determine seventh place at the 16-team tournament.

In the semifinals later Friday, MEI played Woodlands and Princess Margaret faced Fulton.

At the triple-A boys tournament, also in Langley, the Prince George Polars finished 20th out of 24, losing their final match Friday 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 15-10) to North Peace. Kelowna clashed with Mt. Boucherie and Earl Marriott faced Oak Bay in the semifinals Friday night.
