Thomas Speirs is getting what he wants.

Another shot at Mohammed Nassar.

Speirs, a 19-year-old member of the Spruce Capital Warriors Boxing Club, will step into the ring against Nassar Friday night in Edmonton. In two previous tilts with the Calgary-based pugilist, Speirs has two losses, both by split decision. Those bouts happened last season.

"The first one was pretty close but Thomas got ripped off pretty blatantly in the second one," said Spruce Capital coach Wayne Sponagle.

"We're going over there to fight Alberta's best at 165 (pounds) and Thomas knows and I know, if Thomas doesn't stop him and the fight goes three rounds, we're not going to get the decision. Every place has their fighters that they protect.

"I know Thomas is going to beat him but I don't know if Thomas is going to get the decision," Sponagle added with a dry chuckle.

Strategy-wise, Speirs' best shot at victory will be to box instead of brawl.

"The guy can't lay a glove on him when Thomas is boxing, but Thomas likes to fight -- he likes to get in and mix it up and that's when Nassar keeps the fight close," Sponagle said. "Thomas has such beautiful rhythm and can move and punch off his rhythm. If he doesn't want to get hit, he doesn't get hit, but he's just a kid and he likes to fight."

Another Spruce Capital fighter, 20-year-old Marcus Hume, will also see action Friday in Edmonton. The 140-pound Hume will take on Edmonton's Josh Fraser.
