Another weekend volleyball tournament meant another gold medal for the College Heights Cougars boys team.
This time is was the 48-team Best of the West Invitational event hosted by Kelowna Secondary school on Oct. 14 and 15, which the Cougars showed their domination at, posting a 7-0 record and capturing 14 of 15 sets.
Wayne Woyciehouski was named most outstanding player after the Cougars swept Mount Boucherie (Kelowna) 26-24, 25-20 in the final. The Grade 12 middle was also named to the all-star team along with teammates Austin Cromarty and Tanner Wheeler.
During the round-robin play, College Heights defeated Fernie (25-11, 25-21); Archbishop MacDonald Marauders, Edmonton (25-13, 25-23); and W.L. Seaton, Vernon (25-16, 25-14). In the round of 16, the Cougars knocked off Vancouver's David Thompson (25-20, 25-18).
Regional rival North Peace (Fort St. John) gave the Cougars their toughest fight of the weekend, but in the end the Prince George boys won the battle 18-25, 25-20 and 15-11 in the quarterfinal.
In the semifinal, the Cougars slipped past Surrey's Abby Christian 25-17, 25-20.
The Cougars play at the Kelly Road senior boys volleyball tournament Oct. 20-22, along with most of their P.G. rivals. Out-of-town schools invited to the tournament include Abbotsford Christian, Caledonia, Chetwynd and Correlieu.
