The Chilliwack Chiefs scored three times in the first period and added three more in the second and that was more than enough to defeat the Prince George Spruce Kings Sunday night in Chilliwack.
The Kings fell 6-3, ending their three-game B.C. Hockey League roadtrip with a regulation time loss, an overtime loss and a tie.
Goals from Vincent Desharnais, Craig Puffer and Kurt Black chased Kings starting goalie Jesse Jenks from the game. His replacement, Alex Brooks-Potts, didn't fare much better, allowing three goals on 11 shots in the second period. Jake Hand, Jordan Kawaguchi and Jake Larson scored for Chilliwack. The Kings got as close as 4-2 on goals from Cole Todd and Ryan Fritz.
The third period was scoreless. Shots were 29-24 in the Chiefs' favour.
Prince George (26-22-1-6) remained two points behind second place Langley (28-22-1-4). The Rivermen beat the Kings 4-3 in overtime on Thursday. The Chiefs (35-17-1-3) improved their grip on first place in the Mainland Division, 15 points ahead of the Spruce Kings.
Friday in Surrey, the Kings skated to a 1-1 overtime tie against the Eagles.
Jeremiah Luedtke gave the Kings an early 1-0 lead on the power play at the 16:58 mark of the first period. It was a lead the King held until 4:42 of the third period when Surrey forward Spencer Unger tied the game.
Prince George outshot Surrey in the second and third periods, but the Eagles
outshot the Kings 12-4 in the two five-minute overtime periods.
The Eagles outshot the Kings 45-37. Jenks earned his first tie of the season.
The Kings were 1-3 on the power play, while the Eagles were 0-2.
The Kings wrap up the regular season with games Friday and Saturday at the Coliseum.
