It was deja vu when the Cariboo Cougars and South Island Royals met in the second half of their weekend doubleheader.
Just like in the first game the Cougars potted seven goals and Nathan Warren posted the 7-0 shutout at the Save-On-Foods Memorial arena in Victoria as the northern-based Cats improved to 15-3-0 in the B.C. Major Midget League. The Royals fell to 6-9-5.
Logan Styler notched two goals and an assist in Sunday's finale while Braiden Epp, Eli Jarvis, Liam Blackburn, Brad Morrison and Donovan Law had singles. Michael Bell had a pair of assists.
The Cougars were a perfect 5-for-5 on the power play on the weekend. Warren was in net for both shutouts in Victoria and hasn't allowed a goal in four consecutive starts for the Cougars.
In the first game, the Cougars received goals from seven different players in posting a 7-0 win.
Morrison started things off for the Cougars with a power-play marker. The Cougars also received goals from Tre Potskin, Epp, Kenny Nordstrom, Blackburn, Jarvis and Riley Pettit. Blackburn and Epp each had three-point games. The Cougars were 3-for-3 on the power play.
In other weekend action, the Cougars closest rivals faced off in a doubleheader at the Burnaby Winter Club with the Vancouver NW Giants and Okanagan Rockets skating to a 2-2 draw Saturday before the Rockets beat the defending MML champs Sunday by a 7-3 margin.
The Cougars host the Greater Vancouver Canadians in a pair of games at CN Centre this weekend, starting Saturday, 1 p.m. and wrapping up Sunday, 10:15 a.m.
