Cariboo Cougars forward Brad Morrison had two points in Team British Columbia's come-from-behind win over Team Alberta in their opening game Thursday of the Western Canada under-16 Challenge Cup.

The 15-year-old Prince George Cougars prospect had a goal and an assist as Team B.C. rebounded from a 3-0 deficit in the third period to win 4-3 in a shootout. Morrison notched a power-play goal early in the period to get B.C. on the scoreboard at Father David Bauer arena in Calgary. Then No. 1 WHL draft pick in 2012 Matt Barzal scored a pair of goals to tie the game. Morrison assisted on Barzal's second goal with 2:05 to play that tied the game at 3-3.

Team B.C. outshot Alberta 43-24 as Zach Sawchenko was the hero in the Alberta net.

Jansen Harkins, the Prince George Cougars top pick in the 2012 bantam draft, second overall, was the only shooter to score in the skills competition.

Braylon Shmyr had two goals for Team Alberta.

In the first game of the tournament Team Saskatchewan doubled up Team Manitoba 6-3.

Today, B.C. plays Saskatchewan (10:30 a.m. PST) and Alberta and Manitoba face off at 2 p.m. PST.

The gold-medal game is Sunday, noon.

Cariboo Cougars coach Trevor Sprague is an assistant coach with Team B.C. In addition to Morrison and Harkins, the WHL Cougars have four other players taking part in the tournament with three on Saskatchewan and one with Manitoba.
