The Cariboo Cougars know the task at hand.

Win two road games this weekend against the Valley West Hawks and they'll get to play hockey at home again.

The B.C. Hockey Major Midget League will crown a champion in the best-of-three final series between the Hawks and Cougars, which starts tonight in Langley. The winner will play host to the Pacific regional series against the Alberta champions, April 1-3.

The Hawks finished first in the regular season with a 33-6-1 record, while the Cougars (29-8-3) ended up second, six points behind Valley West.

In the season series, the Hawks won two games (4-3 and 3-1), lost one (9-4) and tied the Cougars once (5-5).

The Hawks got to the final with a two-game sweep of the Greater Vancouver Canadians, then beat the Okanagan Rockets in a three-game semifinal. The Cougars dispatched the South Island Royals in a two-game quarterfinal series, then defeated the Vancouver Northwest Giants in three games.

Game 2 of the league championship series is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in South Surrey. If a third game is needed, it would be played Sunday at noon in Langley.
