With four wins in four games, the Valley West Hawks had been flying high.

The Cariboo Cougars caused them a sudden drop in altitude.

Saturday and Sunday in the Lower Mainland, the Cats handed the Hawks their first two losses of the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League season. The first game ended 5-1 in favour of the Cougars and the second one saw the Cariboo club skate to a 4-3 decision.

"It seems like everybody else is trying to knock us off so it kind of felt good to have the reverse role of playing spoiler and knock them off," said Cougars head coach Trevor Sprague. "We had fun doing it. We worked pretty hard all week on looking after our own end and back-checking and picking up our proper guys and helping out in the defensive zone. (Against the Hawks) we had a great transition game as well."
