The Cariboo Cougars will try and put some room between themselves and the rest of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League this weekend.
The Cougars (8-1-1), host the South Island Royals (4-6) Saturday (7:15 p.m.) and Sunday (9:30 a.m.) at Kin 1 arena.
The Cats go into the two-game home stand on a five-game winning streak and lead the 11-team league with 17 points. The Royals have eight points and are eighth.
The Vancouver NW Giants are right behind the Cougars in second place with an undefeated 8-0 record and 16 points.
The Giants face off against the Valley West Hawks in a home-and-home two-game set in Langley and Burnaby this weekend.
The Hawks sit in fourth place with a 6-2 record.
