In three months, the Canada Winter Games will bring the top ringette players in the country to Prince George to decide national bragging rights.

This weekend, Team B.C. will be in the city for a practice at the Coliseum and a tour of the Canada Games facilities. The provincial team players will also be on hand to watch the 23rd annual Joy Hoffman Memorial Tournament at the Kin Centre.

Ringette will be one of the featured sports during the first week of the Games, Feb. 14-20. The B.C. team will have some local content with forward Sydney Irving of Prince George having made the cut in May to join the Canada Games roster.

Joy Hoffman games start Friday at the Kin Centre with seven age divisions involved -- under-nine, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, under-19 and 18-and-older (open). The tournament is named after Hoffman, whose organizational efforts helped found the Northern B.C. Ringette League in 1985.

Last weekend in a tournament in Burnaby, the Prince George under-16 Heat finished third out of six teams, while in the open division the 18-and-older Heat placed fourth out of seven.

This weekend's tournament schedules will be posted on the Prince George Ringette Association website at pgringette.ca.
