Prince George’s Moira Green completed the trifecta at the Biathlon Canada national championships in Valcartier, Que.
The 20-year-old Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member was lights-out on the shooting range in the junior women’s 10-kilometre mass start event, hitting 18 of 20 targets (1+1+0+0) on the way to her third win of the championships on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
Green posted the fastest time of all the women entered in the 10 km race, finishing in 34:38.4.
Green also won the junior women’s sprint on Sunday and Monday’s pursuit.
Emily Dickson of Omineca Ski Club (Burns Lake) was second in the women’s class behind Quinn Morgan of Sovereign Lake, near Vernon.
Dickson struggled with her prone shooting, hitting just four of 10 prone targets. She had two more misses in her standing bouts (3+3+1+1) and lost ground on the leader, having to ski eight penalty loops. Morgan shot 15-for-20 (1+3+0+1) and stopped the clock in 37:00.2, 26.1 seconds ahead of Dickson.
In other Caledonia club results, Nathanael Dean won his first career medal at the national event when he took bronze in the 40-skier U17 men 8 km standing mass start race. Dean had just three misses in 20 shots (1+0+1+1).
Dean’s time of 30:45.4 wasn’t quite quick enough to dislodge Caelan Baine of Foothills Nordic Ski Club (Calgary), who won his third gold medal of the championships in 29:35.9, despite nine missed targets (1+3+2+3). Logan Tirschmann of Whitehorse won silver (30:16.2, 3+0+0+4).
In the youth women’s 7.5 km mass start, won by Cheyenne Tirschmann of Whitehorse (27:44.0, 0+0+1+1), the Cadell sisters of the Caledonia club, Iona and Isla, finished second and fourth respectively.
Isla clocked 29:37.9 (1+0+2+1) and Iona completed the course in 30:04.3 (1+2+0+2).
Aliah Turner of Prince George was ninth (32:42.7, 1+2+3+3)
Skye Cadell, the other Cadell sister from Prince George competing this week at nationals, placed sixth in the U17 women’s 7.5 km mass start. She finished in 38:01.2 (1+2+3+2). Isabella Quintilio of Calgary won that race in 34:28.5 (1+0+3+2).
In the junior men’s 7.5 km mass start, Liam Simons was eighth (41:06.7, 2+1+2+0) and Liam Sinclair placed 15th (43:55.3, 0+3+2+1). Jean-Nicolas De Broeck of Chelsea, Que., set the gold-medal pace (38.14.3, 1+2+1+0).
The championships wrap up Thursday with single-mixed relays.
